Security Advisor Pool

GRC is expanding its global surge capacity and welcomes qualified humanitarian professionals to join GRC’s surge pool for Security Delegates.

The Security advisor pool consists of trained specialists who have the skills and expertise to be deployed as delegates in an emergency response anywhere in the world for up to four months. Surge roster members are typically deployed to support GRC bilateral assistance to its sister National Societies overseas or are seconded to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) or the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Security advisors provide professional security risk management advice to the management of an operation. They support and guide staff on security related matters concerning all personnel and assets of the operation, undertake security assessments and identify functional and practical risk prevention and mitigation measures.

In partnership with relevant stakeholders, they furthermore ensure that the operation develops and approves contingency and critical incident management plans and make them known to all staff by conducting security briefings for all incoming personnel. Access the full generic job profile here.

Your profile

Does the following profile sound like you? If yes, we encourage you to apply and look forward to guiding you through the admission process.

  • You are available for a surge deployment of six weeks to three months in the coming two years.
  • You have a genuine interest in ensuring that your colleagues feel safe and secure while on deployment and can stay calm in crisis situations.
  • You work with people effectively, respectfully, and courteously.
  • You can listen and integrate different viewpoints, generate adherence, and convince.
  • You are not afraid to convey difficult information and assert your point of view.
  • You enjoy analysing risk data and take rapid yet balanced decisions.
  • You have experience in conducting security assessments, in developing contingency plans and in knowing how to access relevant resources.
  • You understand the importance of structure, roles and processes.
  • You have a sound understanding of the overall geopolitical scene and know the challenges and risks of humanitarian work.
  • You have previously worked on assignments in medium to high-risk security areas.
  • Your English level is C1 or higher and you preferably have knowledge of further languages.
  • You preferably have worked within the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement before.

Prior work experience in the military or police force is not required. We strongly encourage women to apply for the Security Advisor Pool. Applications from German Red Cross volunteers and staff members who meet the criteria are welcome.

Please note that this is an application process to join our humanitarian surge roster, not for a specific security advisor position.
