Responding to Crises and Disasters Worldwide

The number of crises and conflicts is increasing worldwide. These not only occur simultaneously but they also influence each other.

Natural disasters and extreme weather events are increasing as a result of the climate crisis. Armed conflicts are leading to food and energy crises. For the people affected, these crises lead to great hardship and challenges: they suffer from poverty, health risks, food insecurity, water shortages and are often forced to leave their homes. The consequence of multiple crises is a rapid increase in the need for humanitarian aid.

Overcoming multiple crises

Every crisis or disaster – be it a prolonged drought in East Africa, an earthquake in the Middle East or mass migration as a result of armed conflict – requires aid that is tailored to the needs of the people. Especially in regions where the population is confronted with multiple crises, the German Red Cross provides support in the form of efficient emergency aid and sustainable development cooperation to strengthen resilience.

We provide assistance in the event of: natural disasters, epidemics and pandemics, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis and hurricanes, consequences of climate change, famines, water shortages, flight and migration, health crises.
