The humanitarian aid of the German Red Cross knows no borders

We provide assistance worldwide — guided solely by the level of need — in more than 40 countries across five continents. Whether responding to natural disasters, famines, epidemics or armed conflicts, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement takes action and delivers life-saving support wherever it is needed.

Together with the Red Cross or Red Crescent Society of the respective country, we assess on site what those affected need most urgently. This allows us to deliver targeted and timely assistance — such as drinking water, food, shelter, and medical care.

Beyond emergency humanitarian aid, we focus on long-term goals such as reconstruction, strengthening the resilience of crisis-affected regions and advancing sustainable development. Creating long-term prospects is a central part of our international assistance.

Our commitment worldwide

Recently, Europe has been confronted with several crises and challenges. To reduce human suffering, the GRC responds to these crisis situations with humanitarian aid based on the need of the affected people.

People in Africa are affected by both acute and chronic crises. That’s why we are actively engaged on the ground with numerous aid projects focusing on nutrition, water supply, and securing livelihoods.

In the Middle East, some of the most severe humanitarian crises in recent history have unfolded — primarily as a result of armed conflict. The German Red Cross supports a wide range of projects across various countries and regions in the Middle East.

Most natural disasters happen in Asia. The GRC’s overall objective is to reinforce the resilience of the target group in this region.

With projects in different areas such as anticipatory action, disaster risk reduction as well as health and social services the German Red Cross is involved in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
