GRC Surge/Emergency Response Training Programme 2019

Compulsory basic training for all delegates

All delegates on the German Red Cross (GRC) roster are required to successfully complete the online training WORC and Stay Safe – Personal Security before being deployed on an international mission.

I. World of Red Cross and Red Crescent (WORC)

The WORC curriculum introduces to the fundamental elements of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement. It is made up of several modules covering subjects such as history, structure, principles, emblem, accountability and codes of conduct of the RCRC Movement, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) as well as the role of National Societies.
(16 - 20 hours)

II. Stay Safe – Personal Security

This course is intended for all Federation and RCRC National Society personnel, including volunteers. The aim of the course is to provide basic security preparation for those personnel travelling or being deployed to the field.
(4 hours)

These and many more courses are provided through the Red Cross Red Crescent Learning Platform (https://ifrc.csod.com).

III. First Aid in the Field – Safety and Security (FAF)

This 2 ½ days training covers safety and security issues relevant in international deployments and prepares prospective delegates for their mission. Participants will learn how to act and react best in difficult and stressful situations in insecure environments, and get familiar with standard safety devices and tools, including information technology and telecommunication equipment. The course is held in English.

The FAF training is only offered together with the IMPACT and the ERU Health/WASH (M15) induction training and cannot be applied for separately!

Training opportunities for surge delegates in emergency response

Emergency Response Unit (ERU)

ERUs are part of the global IFRC disaster response system and have been an important component in international relief operations for over 20 years. They are standardised packages of trained personnel and modules of equipment, ready to be deployed at short notice for use in any part of the world. GRC provides different ERUs in the sectors of Health and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).

In ERU training courses and workshops, participants will learn about the RCRC Movement, its response tools and the basics of disaster management. They will develop the theoretical and practical skills essential in emergency response as well as the required health and WASH specific knowledge and mindsets.

All training events are open to international participants of the RCRC Movement who are working in a respective field and are held in English. Those training opportunities which are primarily designed for GRC surge delegates are marked with “Open to GRC applicants only” and held in German. p>
