They are still in urgent need of humanitarian aid: around 900,000 people in Bangladesh that have fled from the violence in Myanmar. Leading a makeshift life in simple huts made of bamboo and tarpaulins, they are neither allowed to settle down nor work. But to return to their homeland is still too dangerous. Since the arrival of the numerous people in August 2017, the German Red Cross has been in action. We built wells and latrines, distributed building materials. The mobile health units meanwhile have been replaced by permanent facilities. Now we are helping to sustain a dignified everyday life for the people – through the maintenance of water and sanitation facilities, health training to prevent diseases, the protection of huts from storms as well as actions to improve disaster preparedness.
